India, Aug. 4 -- Central GST field officers uncovered tax evasion amounting to approximately Rs 7.08 lakh crore over the past five years, up to the fiscal year 2024-25, Parliament was informed on Monday. This figure includes around Rs 1.79 lakh crore related to input tax credit (ITC) fraud.
In the 2024-25 fiscal alone, GST evasion worth over Rs 2.23 lakh crore was detected, as per data shared by Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary in the Lok Sabha. Out of 30,056 evasion cases identified during the year, 15,283 were linked to ITC fraud, accounting for Rs 58,772 crore of the total evasion.
