India, Sept. 4 -- The fisheries and aquaculture sector has received a major boost under the latest GST reforms, with tax rates on fishing gear, seafood products, aquaculture inputs, and processing services reduced to 5%. Approved by the GST Council in its 56th meeting on September 3, 2025, the move aims to cut operational costs, strengthen competitiveness in domestic and global markets, and directly benefit millions of fish farmers, small-scale fishers, and aquaculture workers.
GST on fish oils, extracts, preserved seafood, and shrimp products has been slashed from 12% to 5%, while essential aquaculture equipment such as diesel engines, pumps, and aerators will also attract just 5%. Chemicals, micronutrients, composting machines, and job w...
