India, Nov. 17 -- The government has imposed import curbs on specific categories of platinum jewellery, effective until April next year, according to an official notification issued on Monday.

This follows a similar move in September, when restrictions were placed on imports of certain silver jewellery until March 31, 2025.

The earlier curbs were introduced to prevent misuse of import benefits, as silver was reportedly being brought into the country disguised as unstudded jewellery from Thailand. India's free trade agreement with ASEAN, of which Thailand is a member, had enabled duty-free access for such imports.
