India, Dec. 8 -- The Government of India has undertaken several initiatives to support the MSME sector, addressing challenges ranging from financing to technology and market access.
Key measures include the revised MSME classification criteria (effective from April 1, 2025) and the rollout of Udyam Registration from July 1, 2020 to drive ease of doing business. Retail and wholesale traders were brought under MSME coverage from July 2, 2021, while non-tax benefits have been extended for three years in cases of upward status change. The Udyam Assist platform, launched on January 11, 2023, aims to formalize informal micro enterprises and enable them to benefit from priority sector lending.
