India, Jan. 27 -- Gold and silver prices surged to fresh record levels in the national capital on Tuesday, supported by strong investor demand and a global rally amid escalating geopolitical and trade tensions.

Gold of 99.9 per cent purity jumped by Rs 7,300, or 4.6 per cent, to an all-time high of Rs 1,66,000 per 10 grams (inclusive of all taxes), compared with its previous close of Rs 1,58,700 per 10 grams on Friday, according to market sources.

Bullion markets were shut on Monday due to the 77th Republic Day holiday.
