India, Jan. 21 -- Gold prices surged sharply on Wednesday, with gold futures jumping Rs 7,774 to an all-time high of Rs 1,58,339 per 10 grams on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), tracking a strong rally in global markets where prices crossed the $4,800 per ounce mark amid sustained safe-haven demand.
Extending gains for the third consecutive session, February-delivery gold futures rose 5.16 percent to scale the fresh record. On Tuesday, the yellow metal had already crossed the Rs 1.5 lakh per 10-gram level in futures trade.
