India, April 15 -- GAIL (India) Limited has approved an investment of Rs 3,800 crore to develop 700 MW of solar power capacity in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, strengthening its push towards clean energy.

The company will set up a 600 MW solar project along with a 550 MWh battery energy storage system at the TUSCO Solar Park in Jhansi, primarily to meet the energy needs of its petrochemical plant in Pata, Auraiya.

Additionally, GAIL will develop a 100 MW solar project with a 22 MWh storage system in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra, aimed at supplying power to its PDH-PP plant in Usar, Raigad.
