India, Aug. 11 -- Crude oil prices declined Rs 56 to Rs 5,493 per barrel in futures trade on Monday as traders pared positions, mirroring sluggish demand in the spot market.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), September delivery contracts dropped Rs 56, or 1.01%, to Rs 5,493 per barrel, with a turnover of 3,929 lots.

Analysts said the downturn was driven by participants unwinding holdings amid muted spot market demand.
