India, July 2 -- Crude oil prices edged up by Rs 24 to Rs 5,639 per barrel in futures trade on Wednesday, supported by firm demand in the spot market and increased buying activity.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), crude oil contracts for July delivery climbed Rs 24, or 0.43%, to Rs 5,639 per barrel, with a trading volume of 14,050 lots.

Analysts attributed the uptick in prices to heightened positions taken by participants amid strong spot demand.
