India, April 20 -- Crude oil futures surged on Monday, gaining Rs 533 to Rs 8,199 per barrel as traders increased positions amid firm demand in the physical market.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange, crude oil contracts for May delivery climbed 6.95% to Rs 8,199 per barrel, with a trading volume of 8,635 lots.

Analysts said fresh buying interest and rising positions by market participants supported the upward momentum in crude oil prices.
