India, Jan. 23 -- Crude oil prices rose sharply in the futures market on Friday, tracking strong trends in global markets.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), crude oil contracts for February delivery gained Rs 114, or 2.1 per cent, to Rs 5,554 per barrel, with a trading volume of 14,267 lots.

Meanwhile, the March contract also traded higher, rising Rs 104, or 1.91 per cent, to Rs 5,555 per barrel, with a turnover of 3,016 lots.
