India, April 8 -- The government on Wednesday approved a subsidy of Rs 41,534 crore for Phosphatic and Potassic (P&K) fertilisers for the upcoming kharif 2026 season, marking a 12% increase compared to the previous year.

The decision was taken by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Narendra Modi. The approved subsidy rates will be applicable from April 1 to September 30, 2026.

The move aims to ensure the availability of key fertilisers to farmers at affordable prices ahead of the kharif sowing season, which typically begins with the onset of the southwest monsoon in June.
