Pakistan, July 8 -- A major financial scandal has rocked Pakistan's Zarai Taraqiati Bank (ZTBL) as over 11,400 loan files-worth more than Rs. 11.48 billion-have gone missing, officials revealed during a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) meeting chaired by Junaid Akbar Khan.
Officials from the Auditor General's Office briefed the committee that out of 22,000 loan files, nearly half have disappeared, raising serious questions about internal accountability. The ZTBL President, Yaqub Bhatti, admitted that at least 790 files remain untraceable. He claimed that a large number of documents were destroyed during the unrest following the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, including 5,000 loan files lost in fire-related incidents across the country.
