Pakistan, May 24 -- The United Arab Emirates experienced its hottest May day on record Friday, with temperatures soaring to a blistering 50.4 degrees Celsius (122.7degF) in Al Shawamekh, Abu Dhabi. According to the National Center of Meteorology (NCM), this is the highest May temperature the country has recorded since it began keeping official data in 2003.

The new record surpassed the previous May high of 50.2degC, set in 2009. The NCM confirmed that this scorching temperature was logged at 2:30 PM local time and represents a worrying trend of earlier and more extreme summer heat.
