Pakistan, May 18 -- President pushes back as retailer warns of cost hikes due to China duties
WASHINGTON - U.S. President Donald Trump criticized Walmart on Saturday, urging the retail giant to absorb the cost of tariffs instead of passing it on to customers through higher prices.
His comments followed Walmart's announcement that it would raise prices later this month due to increased import duties, mainly on Chinese goods. Trump responded on social media, saying, "Walmart should STOP trying to blame Tariffs as the reason for raising prices throughout the chain."
The president added, "Walmart made BILLIONS OF DOLLARS last year, far more than expected. Between Walmart and China, they should, as is said, 'EAT THE TARIFFS,' and not charge...
