Pakistan, July 23 -- Heavy monsoon rains have claimed 11 more lives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan, raising the nationwide death toll to 242 since late June, according to the NDMA. Flash floods swept through homes, roads, and bridges, prompting Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to order the NDMA to coordinate with provinces for urgent rescue and relief.
In Swat, four children and a woman were among the six people killed by flooding and roof collapses. Additional deaths were reported in Bajaur, Upper Kohistan, and Buner. Meanwhile, in Gilgit-Baltistan, overflowing nullahs damaged homes and roads, with Rescue 1122 reporting severe destruction in Danyor and Chilas, where Wapda Colony was submerged.
