Pakistan, Oct. 21 -- The Torkham and Chaman border crossings between Pakistan and Afghanistan have remained shut for the past 10 days. The closure has stopped all trade and pedestrian movement. As a result, long lines of trucks are now stuck on both sides. Traders report heavy financial losses each day. However, there is growing hope that the Torkham border may reopen within 24 to 48 hours.

Officials from both countries have agreed in principle to reopen the crossing. Afghan authorities have already deployed customs staff at the border.
