The world's leading AI and tech companies are accused of widespread music copyright infringement. The International Confederation of Music Publishers (ICMP) said generative AI firms like OpenAI, Suno, Udio, and Mistral used artists' voices, lyrics, and melodies without permission. ICMP described this as "wilful, commercial-scale copyright infringement," affecting global musicians.
The Brussels-based ICMP investigated AI music generation for nearly two years. AI tools can mimic iconic artists including the Beatles, Mariah Carey, and Depeche Mode.
