Pakistan, Aug. 6 -- Thousands of people gathered in Hiroshima on August 6, 2025, to mark the 80th anniversary of the U.S. atomic bomb attack that devastated the city during World War II. Survivors, officials, and representatives from over 120 countries participated in the ceremony, calling once again for the global elimination of nuclear weapons and the promotion of peace.
The U.S. dropped the uranium-based atomic bomb, "Little Boy," on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, killing around 78,000 people instantly. By the end of that year, many more had died from severe burns and radiation exposure. Just three days later, another bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, pushing Japan to surrender on August 15, thus ending World War II.
