MULTAN, Oct. 2 -- A suspected bandit was killed in a police encounter on Wednesday, allegedly by the firing of his own accomplices, while two others managed to escape, the Counter Crime Department (CCD) said.

The deceased was identified as Usman, who was wanted in several cases of serious crimes. His body was shifted to a hospital for medico-legal formalities.

According to CCD police, three armed suspects riding a motorcycle were signaled to stop at a security checkpoint for routine inspection. Instead of complying, they opened fire on the police in an attempt to escape. A constable sustained injuries during the exchange of fire and was admitted to a hospital.
