Pakistan, June 29 -- ROME - A powerful heatwave has gripped Southern Europe, pushing temperatures above 40degC (104degF) in Italy, Greece, Spain, and Portugal. Authorities have issued high alerts, warning of extreme heat and rising wildfire threats.
In Portugal, two-thirds of the country is under red alert, with temperatures expected to soar past 42degC in Lisbon. Similarly, in Greece, officials remain on high wildfire alert after a blaze south of Athens forced evacuations near the ancient Temple of Poseidon.
