The controversial move, which shocked the nation, eventually led to Yoon's impeachment and removal from office in April 2025.

Yoon's lawyers called the investigation politically driven and accused the special prosecutor's office of using media pressure to damage his reputation. Despite their protest, they confirmed that Yoon would fully respond to the probe and "tell the truth."
