Pakistan, Feb. 9 -- The idea of soft power stems from the concept introduced by Joseph Nye in his book Bound to Lead in 1990. Soft power is the ability to shape others' preferences through attraction via culture, political values, and foreign policies rather than coercion (Nye, 1990, p. 188). Colonialism is the best example to quote because apparently the colonies established by the colonists were prima facie political gains, but since these were not the outcome of soft power, therefore, sooner or later those political gains of the colonists fell by the wayside, in the form of independence sought by those colonies.
