Pakistan, Dec. 24 -- Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has directed major reforms in Pakistan's ports to boost trade. He emphasized reducing cargo dwell time and eliminating unnecessary lab tests. The aim is to support the business community and strengthen the national economy.

During a high-level meeting of the private sector port working group, the premier stressed that maritime gateways are the backbone of Pakistan's economy. He ordered cuts in port charges to make exports more competitive globally. Rail connectivity from ports must also be upgraded to improve inland cargo transport.
