SC rejects plea against CEC's appointment
Pakistan, Sept. 16 -- The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday turned down a petition challenging the appointment of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja.
A two-member bench headed by Justice Umar Atta Bandial heard the petition, moved by advocate Ali Azeem Afridi. Justice Bandial said the incumbent chief of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was a retired civil servant and that there were no solid grounds provided in the plea for his dismissal. Justice Bandial in his remarks said that a constitutional amendment cannot be challenged, and asked the applicant to prove which serving judges are working in the ECP.
