Pakistan, Jan. 21 -- The Punjab government has unveiled its Wheat Policy 2026, setting the new wheat price at Rs3,500 per maund to ensure fair compensation for farmers and maintain stable market supplies across the province. The policy aims to strengthen strategic wheat reserves while supporting both producers and the private sector involved in procurement and storage operations.
Under the official notification, Punjab plans to procure up to 2.5 million metric tonnes of wheat in collaboration with selected stakeholders. Strategic reserves will be acquired through purchasing banks, with the government covering 70% of financing costs and providing stakeholders with free access to government-managed warehouses for storage.
