Pakistan, July 3 -- ISLAMABAD - The National Assembly's Standing Committee on Climate Change voiced serious concern on Thursday over Pakistan's growing climate challenges and the poor performance of its disaster response systems. Officials and lawmakers discussed glacier melting, flood risks, and ineffective early warning systems.
During the session, committee member Sahibzada Sibghatullah criticized the current warning system, calling it "ineffective." He mentioned that a bridge in his constituency was destroyed by floods with no repair efforts in place. He stressed that the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) must take responsibility when the crisis surpasses provincial limits.
