New York City - Gaza and Palestine dominated discussions at the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York last week, as world leaders raised their voices against Israeli attacks.

In speeches, UN Security Council sessions, side events and media briefings, many countries - from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to France to Malaysia - demanded an end to Israeli atrocities in Gaza and called for the creation of a Palestinian state.

But as leaders spoke, Israel pressed ahead with its ground assault on Gaza City, killing at least 661 Palestinians during the week.
