Pakistan, Oct. 23 -- The federal government has announced a National Action Plan to conserve endangered shark species in Pakistan's coastal waters. Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said the initiative is being developed with Sindh, Balochistan, and marine experts to curb overfishing and protect marine biodiversity in the Arabian Sea.

The Basking Shark, listed as endangered by the IUCN, faces a serious risk of extinction due to slow reproduction and accidental capture in fishing nets.
