LAHORE, June 21 -- The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has recovered Rs2 billion in a major corruption case involving the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) in Sheikhupura. The case was launched in September 2024 after officials were found to have issued fake cheques worth around Rs5 billion.
The first recovered amount was formally handed over to Punjab's Additional Secretary of Finance, Khalid Mehmood, at NAB Lahore. The recovery came after several accused admitted guilt and agreed to plea bargains. NAB then deposited the recovered funds into the national treasury after court approval.
