Pakistan, June 1 -- GUWAHATI - Torrential monsoon rains have triggered deadly floods and landslides across India's northeastern states, killing at least 30 people over the past two days, authorities confirmed on Sunday.

According to state disaster officials, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh were among the hardest hit, reporting eight and nine deaths respectively. Most of the victims died in landslides as water-soaked hills gave way, burying homes and roads under mud and debris.

In Mizoram, a single deadly landslide claimed five lives, while six more people died in Meghalaya. Nagaland and Tripura also reported two fatalities as rain-swollen rivers and collapsing slopes continued to wreak havoc.
