The Supreme Court has urged parliament to introduce a right of appeal in military trials of civilians. Justice Aminuddin Khan stressed that the absence of this safeguard makes the process incomplete and requires urgent legislation. He said parliament must act within 45 days to ensure fair trial protections.
In his detailed judgment, Justice Khan explained that while the Pakistan Army Act provides some safeguards, it fails without an independent appeal. He emphasized that justice demands transparency and fairness, which can only be ensured through civilian court oversight. Therefore, he called for amendments to the law.
