Pakistan, July 7 -- At least eight Turkish soldiers died after being exposed to methane gas in a cave in northern Iraq. The soldiers were part of a mission to find the remains of a comrade killed by Kurdish fighters in 2022. According to Turkiye's defence ministry, the cave had been used as a hospital by the PKK. The search operation took place on Sunday and involved 19 soldiers. Eleven of them were also affected and taken to the hospital.

The soldiers had been looking for a Turkish fighter killed during Operation Claw Lock. That operation aimed to remove PKK fighters hiding in border caves.
