Pakistan, Oct. 3 -- MANCHESTER - Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer praised a rabbi and security guards at Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue as "heroes" after they helped prevent a greater tragedy during a deadly attack on Yom Kippur.

Two worshippers were killed and four others left in serious condition when 35-year-old Jihad Al-Shamie, a British man of Syrian descent, drove a car into crowds and began stabbing people outside the synagogue. He was shot dead by police within minutes. Officers later confirmed he had been wearing a suspected explosive device, which was not viable.
