Pakistan, Jan. 28 -- Ajit Pawar, the deputy chief minister of India's western state of Maharashtra and chief of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), was killed on Wednesday morning after a chartered aircraft he was travelling in crashed, Indian media reported.

According to NDTV, the aircraft went down while flying from Mumbai to Baramati, a city located in Maharashtra's Pune district. The crash claimed the lives of five people, including Mr Pawar.
Indian media reports said the deputy chief minister was travelling in a privately operated chartered plane. Two pilots and two security personnel were also on board and were killed in the incident.
