Pakistan, Aug. 1 -- Senior lawyer Khawaja Shams-ur-Islam was shot dead outside a mosque in Karachi's Defence Phase 6 on Friday. Police said unknown gunmen ambushed him as he was leaving the mosque after prayers on Khayaban-e-Rahat. Shams-ur-Islam sustained three gunshot wounds and later died at a private hospital. His son and another individual were also injured and are receiving treatment.

Police quickly reached the scene and cordoned off the area. SSP South Karachi confirmed the attack and said the investigation is underway. Authorities are collecting CCTV footage and taking witness statements to identify the suspects. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but police suspect it may be linked to his legal work.
