Pakistan, Dec. 9 -- Japanese authorities lifted tsunami warnings on Tuesday after a powerful 7.5-magnitude earthquake struck northeastern Japan late Monday, injuring at least 30 people and prompting the evacuation of around 90,000 residents. The quake hit off the coast at 11:15pm local time, and the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) initially warned that waves as high as 3 metres could hit the region.

The tsunami warning covered Hokkaido, Aomori, and Iwate prefectures, with smaller waves between 20 and 70 centimetres recorded at several ports. By early Tuesday, the JMA downgraded the alerts to advisories and later lifted them completely. There were no reports of significant structural damage.
