TEHRAN - Iran has recalled its ambassadors from the United Kingdom, France, and Germany for consultations after the three European powers triggered a UN mechanism to reinstate sanctions on the Islamic Republic for the first time in a decade.

State media reported on Saturday that the move followed what Tehran called the "irresponsible action" of the European trio (E3), which accused Iran of concealing aspects of its nuclear program. The sanctions will come into force at midnight GMT on Sunday, banning cooperation with Iran across the nuclear, military, banking, and shipping sectors.
