Pakistan, Aug. 9 -- Electricity consumption soared by 35% to 58% in the last quarter of fiscal year 2025. This sharp rise ended a two-year decline. The major reason was a strong increase in industrial demand. The Power Division credited the growth to the return of captive power users to the national grid, improved economic indicators, and recent power sector reforms.
Officials hope this trend will expand the consumer base and break the cycle of rising electricity tariffs. The return of captive power users spreads fixed capacity charges more effectively, reducing average electricity costs over time. Previously, reduced industrial consumption had limited demand and increased per-unit costs, putting pressure on tariffs.
