Pakistan, July 14 -- ISLAMABAD - The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) has urged Pakistan's Supreme Court to immediately review the latest amendments to the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), warning they pose serious threats to press freedom and journalist safety.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Justice, and also sent to the prime minister and other top officials, the IFJ expressed concern that the expanded powers under the PECA (Amendment) Act 2025 could be misused to silence dissent. The letter highlights the growing legal pressure, harassment, and threats faced by journalists across the country.
