Pakistan, July 31 -- In a major crackdown on illegal tobacco trade, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has given new powers to provincial and federal officers to seize cigarette products without valid tax stamps. According to the latest Statutory Regulatory Order (SRO 1279 of 2025), officers not below Grade 16 can now inspect and confiscate untaxed tobacco from shops, warehouses, and even vehicles nationwide.
This decision follows the enactment of the Finance Act 2025 and aims to control the widespread sale of illicit tobacco.
