Pakistan, Aug. 1 -- The federal government increased the petroleum levy on petrol and high-speed diesel by Rs 2.50 per liter. This hike raises the levy on petrol from Rs 75.52 to Rs 78.02 per liter. Meanwhile, the levy on high-speed diesel went up from Rs 74.51 to Rs 77.01 per liter.

Due to this increase, relief from recent price cuts on petrol has been reduced. In fact, if the levy on diesel had not increased, its price might have dropped instead of rising. Citizens will feel the impact as fuel costs remain high.

Apart from the petroleum levy, the government is also collecting a separate climate support levy of Rs 2.50 per liter on both fuels. This adds to the overall cost that consumers have to bear.
