Pakistan, June 26 -- Global carbon dioxide emissions from the energy sector reached a record high for the fourth consecutive year in 2024, according to the Energy Institute's latest report. Despite a significant rise in renewable energy, fossil fuel use continued to grow, driving emissions upward.
The report showed that total energy supply increased by 2% last year, with all sources including oil, gas, coal, nuclear, hydro, and renewables recording gains. This growth led to a 1% rise in carbon emissions, surpassing the previous record of 40.8 gigatonnes of CO2 equivalent.
