Pakistan, Aug. 8 -- Melting glaciers have caused rivers in Gilgit-Baltistan to swell, leading to serious damage in the region. In Hunza's Morkhun area, strong river currents eroded the riverbank and swept away a part of the Karakoram Highway. This has cut off the important road link between Pakistan and China, disrupting cross-border traffic.

In Skardu, the rising water levels at Zhug Kachura caused a tourist boat to overturn. Several passengers went missing, prompting search and rescue operations. Gilgit-Baltistan's government spokesperson Faizullah Firaq confirmed that teams are actively searching for those missing in the accident.
