Pakistan, June 1 -- Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has strongly criticized recent legislation, claiming it undermines Pakistan's Islamic values and identity. Speaking at a press conference in Peshawar, he expressed concern over what he described as laws that contradict the Quran and Sunnah.

He particularly opposed the proposed ban on marriages for individuals under 18, calling it a continuation of colonial-era thinking. According to Fazlur Rehman, while Islam encourages marriage, current laws are making lawful unions difficult and giving more ease to immoral behavior like consensual adultery.
