Pakistan, July 29 -- Former Chief Justice of Pakistan Jawwad S. Khawaja filed a contempt of court petition on Monday against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for not following Supreme Court orders. The petition claims that the federal government failed to create an independent appellate forum within the 45-day deadline given by the Supreme Court on May 7, 2025.

The court had directed the government to introduce amendments to the Pakistan Army Act, allowing civilians convicted by military courts to appeal in High Courts. However, the petition argues that no such legislation has been made, which amounts to disobedience of the court's ruling. The former CJP submitted the plea through senior lawyer Khwaja Ahmad Hosain.
