Pakistan, Dec. 19 -- Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Friday accused India of persistently attempting to undermine the Indus Waters Treaty in a systemic manner. He made the remarks while addressing the media in Islamabad, highlighting concerns over a sudden variation in the flow of the Chenab River. The Pakistani Foreign Office had earlier sought clarification from India regarding the matter.
Dar said the developments posed a serious threat to peace and stability in South Asia. He recalled that in April this year, India had unilaterally suspended aspects of the Indus Waters Treaty.
