Pakistan, Feb. 1 -- China conducted naval and air patrols around Scarborough Shoal in the South China Sea on Saturday, asserting its territorial claim despite the shoal lying within the Philippines' exclusive economic zone.
The China Southern Theater Command stated that these patrols are part of enhanced combat readiness operations aimed at countering "infringement provocations" by other countries in the region, emphasizing China's sovereignty claims.
Earlier this week, the militaries of the Philippines and the United States carried out joint exercises near Scarborough Shoal, marking the 11th such drill since November 2023 to strengthen regional cooperation.
