Pakistan, July 24 -- Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has announced plans to begin assembling its first locally made car in Pakistan by July or August 2026. This move marks a major step in BYD's regional expansion strategy as it seeks to meet growing demand for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles in the country.
The assembly plant, located near Karachi, is being developed in partnership with Mega Motor Company, a subsidiary of Hub Power. The facility, under construction since April, will have an annual production capacity of 25,000 units on a double-shift basis. While the initial focus will be on local demand, BYD is also considering future exports to right-hand drive markets, depending on costs and logistics.
