An audit report has revealed that imported wheat worth more than Rs 74 billion could not be sold after becoming unfit for consumption due to poor handling and storage failures.

The Auditor General highlighted that the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO) failed to manage the stock, leaving a huge quantity of wheat infested with fungus, insects, and khapra beetle powder.

The report stated that PASSCO purchased around 1.633 million metric tons of imported wheat during 2022-23 and 2023-24, but it could only sell 956,000 metric tons successfully.
